I have an annual subscription
for the British Newspaper Archive
and clipped these images from the papers:
New Year's Eve in 1916.
It seems an age
since the start of the centenary commemorations of
World War One in 2014.
By the end of 1916 in our family
Percival Edward Murray,
Maurice John Arthur Murray,
Richard Henry Ashworth,
Thomas Barratt and
had all enlisted and served in France and thus far had all survived.
Nathan Joseph was to join them on the Western Front early in 1917.
Back then, on New Year's Eve 1916, it must have seemed a long time too
for our ancestors
since they'd thought it would all be over by Christmas.
Thanks for reading my blog today and very best wishes for a peaceful 2017.
